Griffith Observatory Sunrise Engagement Session

Ashley & Garrett’s sunrise engagement session at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Griffith Observatory is a famous landmark observatory located in the center of metropolitan Los Angeles. Not only is it a museum with various exhibits about space and science, it is also a sight to behold in itself with its unique architecture and offerings of panoramic city views. It’s no wonder why the location is such a hot spot for photoshoots. If you are there during opening hours, you will find the observatory constantly crowded with tons of tourists and locals alike. This is exactly why we chose to shoot here during sunrise when the observatory was a lot less crowded.

I planned to meet with the couple, Ashley and Garrett, at 5:45 AM in order to catch the 6:00 AM sunrise. They had recently moved to Los Angeles from Seattle, so it was a great opportunity to explore the area as well. The early wake up time was incredibly worth it! We dodged the infamous LA traffic, and parking was also free at the time since it is technically before opening hours. Not only will you get an empty canvas to take photos in front of, you will also be met with the most flattering, soft morning light as the sun rises over the city. There are literally no bad angles at Griffith Observatory. My favorite shots are the ones of Ashley & Garrett underneath the great arches of the observatory.
